PRODUCT NEED:
Grime-covered rubber goods such as gloves and hot jumpers present safety hazards to utility linemen. Field contaminants like hydraulic fluid and agricultural chemicals can degrade protective rubber products. Gunky build-up can change rubber's electrical properties and defeat its insulating protection by providing potentially dangerous electrical paths--sometimes by simply allowing moisture from rain, mist, fog, or snow to "wet out" on tool surfaces. Grime can also hide physical damage (nicks, cuts, burns, and crush points) that compromises rubber tools. Grime also reduces visibility, making normally bright yellow or orange tools difficult to differentiate from dangling branches during storm restoration. Though they may clean effectively, off-the-shelf industrial cleaners and solvents (petroleum distillates, hydrocarbons, kerosene, terpenes, d-limonene, and glycol ethers) can also damage protective rubber, and should be avoided. Rubber goods must be cleaned; lives depend on it. But existing cleaners are ineffective, incompatible with rubber, or too harsh on hands. Can't someone formulate a safe and effective rubber goods cleaner?
PRODUCT SOLUTION:
Introducing Rubber Goods Cleaner (RBG) to the Polywater® family of Live-Line safety products. RBG is a specially formulated water-based cleaner for removing hydraulic fluid, grease, dirt, carbon, creosote, and other grimes from insulating blankets, lineman’s gloves, rubber sleeves, ground jumpers, hot jumpers, and line-hose. RBG is safe for use on natural and synthetic rubbers. Unlike other water-based rubber cleaners, convenient RBG requires no dilution. It contains no hazardous ingredients and is pH neutral, making it safe for use on skin. RBG is also biodegradable and safe for the environment. Because RBG is effective yet gentle on hands it is more likely to be used, further extending the life of rubber goods--and possibly the personnel using them.
