Mice and other rodents seek the shelter of warm locations as cooler weather approaches in Autumn. As these vermin settle into nice cozy spaces, they begin to reproduce. Electrical transformer enclosures and communications pedestals provide shelter from predators, and the nasty little beasts flourish. It doesn't take long before there's a population boom, which brings a host of problems for utilities, such as chewed cables, crossed phases, and the potential for hanta virus.

Snakes are another common problem in the fall. Most U.S. snakes are born between July and September, and their prevalence in the fall is further increased as the adults actively search for suitable hiding places prior to hibernation. Some species, such as the canebrake rattlesnake, mate in the fall. Big male rattlesnakes are seen most commonly in autumn. Snakes obviously introduce the possibility of painful and venomous bites.

These intrusions can be prevented with application of Polywater's InstaGrout Sealant Barrier for transformers and PedFloor Structural Foam Barrier for communications pedestals. A huge advantage for these durable sealants is that they replace other seasonal mitigation procedures: they last for years, if not for the life of the equipment. Once an enclosure is protected by InstaGrout or PedFloor, the problem is solved and crews won't need to return to deal with more critters in the future.

Fall is an ideal time to remind customers to resolve their mice and snake infestations once and for all!

The Joke
What's Your Name? Walking through Chinatown, a tourist is fascinated with all the Chinese restaurants, shops, signs and banners. He turns a corner and sees a building with the sign, "Hans Olaffsen's Laundry." He muses, "Hans Olaffsen? How the heck does that fit in here?" So he walks into the shop and sees an old Chinese gentleman behind the counter. The tourist asks, "How did this place get a name like 'Hans Olaffsen's Laundry?'" The old man answers, "Is name of owner." The tourist asks, "Well, who and where is the owner?" The old man replies, "Me ... is right here." "You? How did you ever get a name like Hans Olaffsen?" The old man says, "Is simple. Many, many year ago when come to this country, was stand in line at Documentation Center. Man in front was big blonde Swede. Lady look at him and go, 'What your name?' He say, 'Hans Olaffsen.' Then she look at me and go, 'What your name?' I say, 'Sem Ting.'"
