A Weekly Summary of Polywater® News of Incredible Importance
Issue #799

This incredible picture shows ice in an aerial fiber splice enclosure belonging to a communications service provider. Needless to say, ice is problematic for an enclosure's inner workings. In fact, the presence of water--or ice in freezing temperatures--essentially defeats one of the fundamental purposes of the enclosure: protection from the elements.

Polywater tested a sealing solution for the provider utilizing SolidSeal Duct Plug. The concept is a big success and is described in this Analysis of Sealing Fiber Splice Enclosures With SolidSeal Duct Plug, which can serve as a selling tool for communications reps.

Why do enclosures leak? Air flow in and out of an enclosure is created by temperature changes. As air in an enclosure heats up, the pressure inside increases. If there's a leak in the enclosure, air is expelled. As the air cools, the pressure in the enclosure decreases. Air and moisture are drawn into the enclosure. Imagine the enclosure heating up from sunlight, followed by a cold rain creating suction inside the enclosure and drawing water in. This cycle can be repeated until the entire interior is flooded--and then frozen in cold temps.

Common places for leaks are at the fiber entry points. It's difficult or impossible to seal the leaks from the outside of the case due to flexing of the fiber and original installation workmanship. Total case replacement is usually the only option. But by using SolidSeal to plug the fiber entry point inside the case, the high cost and long outages created by maintenance or case replacement can be avoided.

The Joke
Last of the Mixed Metaphors.   1) We need to look at it before the other eyes set foot on it. 2) We need to sit down and walk through some things. 3) We raised it to new depths. 4) We should continue to ride the horse that brings in the gravy. 5) We'll have to get our hands wet. 6) We'll just deal with it when we cross that bridge. 7) We'll rewind the calendar. 8) We're cooking on all four cylinders. 9) We're going to get locked into a corner. 10) We're still getting our feet wet on getting rolling here. 11) What a dirty trap! 12) What goes around, stays in Vegas. 13) When life throws you curve balls, make lemonade. 14) When we cross that path. 15) When you boil it down to its nuts and bolts. 16) When you put your best foot forward, it rubs off on someone. 17) We'll fight you hook, line, and sinker. 18) Windy as a hornet. 19) Without fear of hesitation. 20) You are wise behind your ears. 21) You buttered your bread, now sleep in it! 22) You can dish it out, but you can't take it with you. 23) You can lead a gift horse to water but you can't look him in the mouth. 24) You can take that to the bank and smoke it. 25) You could have blown me over with a feather. 26) You could visibly hear the reaction. 27) You can take that guy with a grain a salt. 28) You've got to walk with kid gloves. 29) You have to dance to a different drum. 30) You hit the nail on the dot. 31) You must have ears like an eagle. 32) You need more sugar to get your brain circulating. 33) You were at your wit's nerve. 34) You're fighting upstream. 35) You're not pointing blame?
