Lessons from Fukushima
News Flash: FST Foam Duct Sealant helps nuclear plants meet urgent flood preparedness requirements.

The NRC website states: "On March 11, 2011, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake struck Japan and was followed by a 45-foot tsunami, resulting in extensive damage to the nuclear power reactors at the Fukushima Dai-ichi facility. The NRC has taken significant action to enhance the safety of reactors in the United States based on the lessons learned from this accident."

It doesn't take a tsunami to create a flood. Rising rivers, excessive rainfall, breached dams, and broken water pipes can also wreak havoc. Each plant must evaluate its unique flood exposure and implement corrective action. Of significance to us is that mitigation includes duct system hardening.

Open-ended conduits are a clear pathway for water--from whatever source--to move within a plant. The logical mitigation step is to seal all ducts with watertight duct plugs: FST Foam. This is happening now. There is at least one person at each plant responsible for preparedness, with looming deadlines. They often talk to each other. As we pursue an opportunity at one plant we get unsolicited calls from another.

Electrical Division Central Regional Sales Manager Jake Jonnes, who responded quickly to this important opportunity, has already completed sales to seven nuclear plants. Each plant represents a large sales potential. Contact your regional manager and make plans to approach the nuclear sites in your territory. Please hurry ... for your health if not your pocketbook.
