![]() SolidSeal Damming Disk |
          | One of the unique design features of the new SolidSeal Duct Plug for smaller-sized communications conduits is the
foam damming disks, as described in the SolidSeal Instruction Sheet. Note that the disks are the same as those in the new FST-MINI package for smaller electrical applications. The disks serve the same function as the damming strips (catalog #FST-DAM) in the larger 250ml caulking tube packages, which is to create a cavity inside the end of the duct into which liquid SolidSeal (or FST) is injected. The damming disks then hold the liquid in place while it foams up and cures. Without the disks, particularly in any conduit orientation off dead level, the liquid can run and make an ineffective mess. The difference is that the strips are 24" x 2" x .75" sheets of foam--which are difficult to fit into small ID ducts without field modification--whereas the circular disks are 1" thick with a 2" circumference. Another key difference is that the strips are wrapped around cable bundles prior to insertion, while the disks are notched to accommodate the cables. The smaller preformed and pre-notched disks are much easier to insert in small ID conduits, and are customizable from 2" ID conduit size down to 1.25"-1.5" size, and further to .75"-1" size, by simply tearing off the indexed outer rings as necessary. The urethane damming material, whether in disk or strip form, also has fire retardant characteristics that may be of value in some applications:
