A Weekly Summary of Polywater® News of Incredible Importance
Issue #675

12,000 years ago, global warming was bringing the most recent ice age to a close. Over time, melting glaciers and ice-dammed rivers created "Glacial Lake Missoula" in western Montana, a 2,000-feet-deep puddle as big as Lakes Erie and Ontario combined! The water was contained by a 2,001-foot-high ice dam. Suddenly, on a Friday, weakened by the heat and rising water pressure, the ice wall finally collapsed in one of the greater geological events on Earth. This released an incomprehensibly massive torrent of water rushing 430 miles across the Northwest to the Pacific Ocean at speeds up to 50 mph. The flood waters ran with a force equal to 60 Amazon Rivers, draining the entire lake in just a few days. Car-sized boulders embedded in ice floated some 500 miles. Thundering waves and chunks of ice tore away soils and mountainsides. The landscape was forever changed.

The great Missoula Lake Flood probably wasn't witnessed by man, as it pre-dated Clovis Man's arrival in North America by about 1,000 years. But even if man were present, there were no conduits to worry about at the time ... so no big deal. Today we're not so lucky. We have to be prepared. FST Foam Duct Sealant is how we prepare.

Obviously, we don't see flood damage on this scale regularly, but it doesn't take a flood that big to cause huge problems in electrical and communications systems. Whether it's spring river flooding, hurricanes, cyclones, monsoons, thunderstorms, bursting dams, or broken water pipes, it's always too wet somewhere on earth, and utility plant is at risk. Conduits must be protected.

As we saw recently with the success Polywater rep Evans Lipka & Associates had in responding to the Iowa flooding, and now our agents in the East responding to Hurricane Irene, there are huge sales opportunities for FST during and after floods. But the "pre" in "prepare" means to do it before the event occurs.

You will be of greater service to your customers by selling duct seal preparedness than by responding later to their flooded duct panic. Common sense demands it. Many specifications require it. Sell preparedness with FST.
