From the "you should be aware" department, there is this: ClearGlide™ cable pulling lubricant from Ideal Industries is supposed to be a clear, see-through product. Ideal has invested heavily to promote the advantages of a clear lubricant. However, random samples obtained from various distributor shelves recently show that at least some ClearGlide is distinctly white and opaque. Pardon the pun, but this is a clear change from past product, and it's immediately obvious to the naked eye--especially in contrast to a genuine clear lubricant, our very own Polywater CLR. The cause is not clear to us. It may be a formulation change (though it's hard to imagine they'd intentionally turn their clear lube opaque). It may be a cross-contamination effect. It may be an unintended raw material change. It may be a production error. And to be fair, it may be occurring in the bottles after packaging, making it hard to detect in Quality Control. We don't know what's in there. Customers might be thinking the same thing. Oddly, recent visits to the local DIY store reveal a different phenomenon: ClearGlide with a yellowish tinge. Could it be that Ideal makes it in the same vat as Yellow 77® with residual dye staining the ClearGlide too? Clear lube is essentially an aesthetic buy, so customers expect to get a lube that isn't dingy yellow or milky white. That's why you can sell Polywater CLR over ClearGlide with confidence. CLR easily outperforms ClearGlide in friction reduction, and can be safely used on much longer pulls. CLR is truly clear and offers lower friction, longer shelf life, and batch consistency, year after year. |
