As it turns out, Polywater's founder, Nelson Jonnes, did more than revolutionize the cable pulling lubricant industry with the invention of high-tech polymer lubes; he was also instrumental in the original idea that ultimately led to the creation of the Peace Corps, which has helped untold millions of people throughout the world over the years. Peace Corps founder Dr. Douglas Kelly describes the contribution in his memoir: "During my senior year at Berea College, while serving as national chair of Students for Democratic Action (the student division of Hubert Humphrey's Americans for Democratic Action) I corresponded with University of Michigan graduate George Shepherd, then studying for a doctorate at the London School of Economics, and with students Julius Kiano (from Kenya) and Nelson Jonnes at Antioch College, Ohio. The four of us, and Berea classmate Galen Martin, agreed there ought to be a program that would place people in modestly-paid jobs with indigenous organizations and governments in Africa, Asia, and Latin America." The result was the formation of the International Development Placement Association, a forerunner of the Peace Corps, which was created in 1951. Polywater recently found a unique way to contribute to Haiti relief following the devastating earthquake there.
Carrying on the Nels Jonnes tradition of making a better world through chemistry--or whatever it takes--Polywater recently found a unique way to contribute to Haiti relief following the devastating earthquake there. Apparently there is a high demand for empty 5-gallon pails, and Polywater (perfectly positioned to do so) has made a nice donation of them to a relief organization. The durable plastic pails are useful for holding and transporting water, food, medical supplies, and personal belongings. Turned upside down they can keep items dry in the rain or serve as a stool for the weary. With a hole cut in the bottom they can even serve as a field latrine. It's amazing how such a throw-away item becomes so critically useful in a place where virtually all infrastructure has been destroyed. Polywater is pleased to have found a way to help.

The Friday Fax Editor's Joke of the Week
The Joke
Reagan Quips.   1) Here's my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose.   2) The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.   3) Even Albert Einstein reportedly needed help on his 1040 form.   4) I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandment's would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress.   5) The taxpayer: that's someone who works for the federal government but doesn't have to take the civil service exam.   6) People don't start wars, governments do.   7) The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program.   8) I have left orders to be awakened at any time in case of national emergency, even if I'm in a cabinet meeting.   9) It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.   10) Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.   11) Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed there are many rewards, if you disgrace yourself you can always write a book.   12) In the present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.   13) A hippie is someone who looks like Tarzan, walks like Jane, and smells like Cheetah.
