The FST-250 package works best with a high-ratio caulking-gun dispenser tool.
FST-250
We promised more information on the new Polywater FST-250 Foam Duct Sealant "caulking-gun" package.   First, about that caulking gun.   Be aware that most hardware stores carry them (Polywater does too: cat #FST-TOOL250), but these are not the $1.59 cheapies.   The more expensive high-ratio tools work best.   The cheaper tools may suffice for low-volume usage, but dispensing the foam from the cartridge and through the restriction of the mixing nozzle requires exertion that over time may frustrate customers, and can cause the tool to fail.   The beefier high-ratio tool eases dispensing and is recommended for regular use.

Second, a key target of this new package should be customers using "canned foam."   Canned foams are generally inexpensive and very convenient.   You won't compete there.   Their drawback is the quality of the foam.   Typically, these are open-cell foams.   They foam up quickly, but many of the bubbles burst.   Also, the cell walls on many of the bubbles that don't burst initially do so later under pressure.   These so-called open cells weaken the structure of the foam and allow water and gases to weave their way through, eventually negating any duct blocking effect.   Open-cell foams do not hold water or gas, and are ineffective duct blocks.   FST, on the other hand, is a robust closed-cell foam that out-performs canned foam in all ways.   The FST-250, with its more familiar and inexpensive tool (relative to the FST-180) may help you win over more customers willing to pay a bit more for a product that actually works.

The Friday Fax Editor's Joke of the Week
The Joke
Dog for Sale.   A guy is driving around the back woods of Montana and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: "Talking Dog For Sale".   He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.   The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.   "You talk?" he asks.   "Yep," the Lab replies.   After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says, "So, what's your story?"   The Lab looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young.   I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA.   In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.   I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running.   But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger, so I decided to settle down.   I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in.   I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals.   I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."   The guy is amazed.   He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.   "Ten dollars," the guy says.   "Ten dollars?   This dog is amazing!   Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?"   The guy says, "Because he's a liar.   He never did any of that stuff."
