APC introduces new SqueekyKleen™ Communications Cleaner.
New Telcom Cleaner
Attention telcom reps!   APC is excited to introduce new SqueekyKleen Communications Cleaner, a specially formulated solvent for removing pik (cable gel) from loose-tube and ribbon fiber in preparation for splicing.   Now, don't laugh about the name.   Once you see the product demo, you'll immediately grasp the brilliance of the name.   SqueekyKleen get fibers squeaky clean and fanned (separated for easier prep work) in two wipes without alcohol.   You'll literally hear the difference!   The same process with D'gel (from PT Technologies, part of LPS Laboratories, a division of Illinois Tool Works) requires many wipes and alcohol follow-up.   SqueekyKleen is less harsh on skin, has less odor, and beats D'gel hands down.   SqueekyKleen's unique formulation and specially designed high-performance towelette work to remove pik from the entire surface of loose-tube or ribbon fibers, leaving no residue.   Experienced cable splicers are familiar with the coveted fiber squeak, and are awed by SqueekyKleen's performance.   You will have fun selling this product.   Be on the look-out for your market introduction packet, on its way to you soon.

Continue to sell Type FO™ for fiber splicing.
Type FO
Whew! The advent of new SqueekyKleen relieves us of the obligation to sell Type FO Alcohol Prep Wipes, right?   No!   You see, fiber optic cable splicing is a multi-step process.   Unlike D'gel, SqueekyKleen alleviates the need for alcohol in the cable prep step, where pik is removed from cladding after the jacket is stripped.   However, the final step--after the cladding is removed--still requires that the bare glass fibers are wiped with an alcohol-soaked towelette prior to fusing.   SqueekyKleen eliminates the need for alcohol in fiber cable prepping, not in bare glass fiber splicing.   Type FO is just as viable a product as ever.   Recall that FO is highly pure, non-residue, 99.8% anhydrous alcohol on large, easier-to-use towelettes (5" x 8" vs. the standard 2" x 2").   Actually, SqueekyKleen and Type FO go hand in hand.   Every sale of either is an obvious opportunity to sell the other.   If you remain confused over the role of alcohol in fiber splicing, call APC's resident expert, Steve Scudder.   It's important to send the right message about alcohol use with SqueekyKleen.

The Friday Fax Editor's Joke of the Week
The Joke
The History of Phone Service.   After having dug to a depth of ten meters last year, Scottish scientists found traces of ancient copper wire and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.   Not to be outdone by the Scots, in the weeks that followed, British scientists dug to a depth of twenty meters.   Shortly thereafter, headlines in the UK newspapers read: "British archaeologists have found traces of 200-year-old copper wire and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced, high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the Scots."   Now, one week later, The Eau Claire Leader, a Wisconsin newspaper reported the following story: After digging as deep as thirty meters in the cornfields near Eau Claire, Ole Jenson, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing.   Ole has therefore concluded that 300 years ago Norwegians were already using wireless.
