![]() November Price Increase |
In case you missed the email broadcast earlier this week to reps and distributors, APC has issued a new Distributor Price Schedule effective 11-15-06. Click here to Download the Price File in Excel format. For brevity's sake the text of the email notice was essentially propaganda on new products (I know because I wrote it) without any reasons stated for the increase. Despite the impression held by some that price increases are generally the result of corporate greed, this year's increase is necessary for the same reason as last year's: high oil prices and chemical production disruption from Katrina. These affect virtually everything related to our products, the chemical raw ingredients, the plastic packaging, and related transportation costs--all of which continued to rise during 2006. Chemical feedstock and diesel cost changes tend to lag those of the fast moving crude oil and gasoline commodities. APC has done an extraordinary job of increasing production efficiency to offset material and packaging cost increases. This allows us to keep our selling price increase percentages far below the average cost increases we've experienced over the past two years. With luck we'll see prices stabilize in 2007 with falling oil prices. |
![]() Updating Price Quotes |
In conjunction with the general price increase, all special quotes should be reviewed and increased where possible. This includes many special order products not listed on the published price sheet. How high should they go? While there are differences from line to line and package to package, our cable lubricants and sealants generally rose 4% and cleaners rose 6% to 9%. Some products, such as Grime-Away and RBG Rubber Goods Cleaner, did not increase. Use these percentages as guidelines, but note that special quotes that avoided last year's increase will be scrutinized and may need to rise even more. A tip to make future price increases easier on special quotes: tie them to price schedule changes so quoted prices automatically change in relation. Offer distributors a percentage discount rather than a flat dollar price. When the published price rises, their discounted price rises proportionally. |
![]() The Joke |
Sven and Ole are looking at birds in a Duluth pet shop. Sven says to Ole, "Dat's dem." The owner asks if he can help them. "Yah sure, ve'll take four of dem der little budgies in dat cage up der," says Sven. The owner bags the budgies. Ole and Sven pay for the birds and head off in Sven's pick-up to some big cliffs near Two Harbors. At the cliffs, Sven looks down at the 1000-foot drop and says, "Dis looks like a grand place." He takes two birds out of the bag, puts them on his shoulders and jumps off the cliff. Ole watches as Sven falls all the way to the bottom, killing himself. Looking down at the remains, Ole shakes his head and says: "By yumpin' yiminy, dis budgie jumping is too dangerous for me." Then Hans, who's been to the pet shop too, arrives at the cliff. He walks up to the edge carrying a parrot and a shotgun. "Hey, Ole, vatch dis," Hans says. He takes the parrot and gun and throws himself off the edge of the cliff. Ole watches as, halfway down, Hans shoots the parrot, but continues to plummet until he hits the bottom, breaking every bone in his body. Ole shakes his head and says, "And I'm never trying dat parrotshooting either." Then Lars arrives from the pet shop carrying a chicken. Lars grasps the chicken by the legs, holds it up high, and hurls himself off the cliff. He falls to the bottom, breaking his spine. Once more Ole shakes his head. "First der was Sven with his budgie jumping, den Hans parrotshooting ... and now Lars hengliding!" |
